Playing
Up The Neck
There are advantages to playing chords further up the neck
than the
first position. You can damp down all the strings by raising the left
hand slightly or use open strings (not fretted) by raising some fingers
of the left hand completely off the neck.
The frets are closer together and so some melodies are easier to play -
and it just sounds better. I don't know why but it just does.
Give these a try to find out how your new finger picking routine sounds for different positions.
Do not try to do too much in one session. One set each time
is enough
but do keep going back - it gets easier with time. Too much in one go
is boring and it will overwork muscles which will takes weeks to
develop. I suggest you go onto Tutorial 6 soon but keep coming back to this page.
